Dr. Jared Day will present a lecture on the history of Earth Day, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Monday, April 13, at Simsbury Public Library.

His lecture examines one of the most consequential times in recent U.S. history, the early 1970s, a time when environmentalism was new and concern about the health of the planet was growing dramatically.

In that era of new priorities, new laws were passed and a new holiday declared: Earth Day, a global holiday designed to focus people’s attention on protecting those aspects of the environment that allow for life to exist in the first place.

Dr. Day taught American history at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh for 16 years.

This event is co-sponsored by the Senior Center and Library. Please register at either location.
